Flying on the airplane with mushrooms
Airplane hacks, surviving plane anxiety, my favorite mushroom tinctures for travel, mouth tape and TSA tips & tricks. Your travel guide for getting high.
Plane rides stress me out. Am I the only one that fully anticipates the worst? Accepting my fate as I willingly step over the threshold where the aircraft meets the walk way?
On the other side of that experience, I find adventure, freedom and exploration. And like any good Sagittarius knows, that is worth the drama of the airport.
How do we push through the lack of clean food, sketchy airport water filtration systems, radiation and deal with the explanation of all of my mushroom specimens to TSA?
At this point in my life, I have flown, A LOT. As much as I try to act like I stay home, I am still an Alaska Airlines MVP/ Gold status customer. So, I have tips and we will cover them all here. My hope is that they find the people they are meant to find as we enter into the high traveling summer season.
What I don’t fly without:
1.) You need the right travel bag set up. I highly recommend the Filson 24 hour bag. It has the best pockets, space for my computer, books, tinctures, business cards, sleep kit, Tupperware for food, and the perfect little latch to sit on top of my carry-on.
2.) I have yet to find the perfect carry-on so I always steal Colt’s, it’s linked here. My mom swears by Briggs and Riley and I will link that here. I like Colt’s bag but I do wish it had a front pocket, not that I know what I’d put in there but it seems nice.
3.) Packing all of my own food. This one is non-negotiable for me, I will forever be the weird chick eating my hard boiled, farm fresh egg right next to you. Examples of what I like to pack are, leftovers (on my last trip to Costa I brought left over ground elk and hard boiled eggs), apples (often pre-sliced), radishes, granola etc. I tend to eat high protein so here is an example of my plane lunch:
4.) My “sleep” kit. I travel with an inflatable neck pillow, mouth tape (iykyk), silk eye mask, LMNT electrolyte packets (use this code to order, I love the citrus salt), silk hair bonnet and some type of plant ally spray. I love this one from my friend Emilee’s company GARA, she distills all of them, you truly cannot go wrong.
5.) Cognitive Function FLOW. Absolutely will NOT leave the house without this, especially for a flight. The FLOW is jokingly called my “Bubble Bath in a Bottle” and it has that name for a reason. It really helps me calm my nerves and ground.
6.) Cognitive Function DEFENSE. This tincture is my bodies extra layer of armor. I use it to keep my immune system up and for overall vitality. It is a 6 mushroom blend and is absolutely fabulous for helping your body find balance and staying healthy. Also! If you are going to a sunny location take the DEFENSE two-three weeks prior, it will help the melatonin in your skin and keep you from burning. I never use sunscreen and this is part of my sun protection routine.
7.) Gummies + high CBD tincture (I like this brand, they are local to me). I have folks who love a mushy gummy to ease stress too. If that is of interest I have folks I can connect you with. I keep all of these in a CF Lion’s Mane gummy bag for ease of use and discretion. You can also use a vitamin/ supplement bottle or put them in with your other “snacks”.
8.) Tea! I bring an assortment. Throat coat, jasmine green tea, stress release, breath easy, yerba mate. This is a fun place to improvise and will also set you up for success incase you need tea when you arrive.
9.) Journal, kindle, books, downloaded feel-good shows. This gives me options for long flights. Sometimes we need to distract ourselves from the discomfort that anxiety causes. Some do this with a wine, I do it with FLOW and Sex and the City.
10.) Electronics bag. I have a cheap one from Amazon, I’ll link it here. I love how it keeps all of the cords organized and I don’t have to worry about where everything is.
Hot tip: this is one from my mother (Sue-Lynn), she always packs a scarf (bonus points if you can find a quality cashmere one). She recommends this for sun protection, helping to cover your eyes when taking a nap or for staying warm. I just found this one on Quince and the price is great for the quality, 60% cashmere, 40% silk.
Airport/ Airplane tips:
1.) TSA pre-check. Needs no explanation.
2.) When entering TSA, if I have enough time, I will opt out of the security body scanners and request a pat down. Yes, they hate it and make you wait a little extra but I don’t like undergoing extra radiation if I don’t have to. I am at a peak fertility age and I am not about to risk it. That is also the reason I give them too or I lie and say I’m pregnant. I will note that I don’t feel as concerned about walking through the metal detectors as I do those full on wooshy x-ray scanning machines.
2.5) If I am in a rush, my tips for TSA is to have pre-check but I usually always forgo a belt and wear my slip on Birkenstocks with a nice cozy sock.
3.) Finding glass water bottles or filling up water at a filling station. If you are at LAX you can find glass water bottles. If not I will occasionally fill up from their filtered machines. It is rare and only if it will be a long flight. When I am traveling I always keep LMNT electrolyte packets and or Trace Mineral drops (buy the 2oz so you can get through security) to add into my water.
4.) Getting a hot water to-go from the nearest coffee shop and making my own tea. This usually helps calm me down and it gives me something warm to hold onto on the plane.
5.) Stretching at the gate. I’m over the age of 30 now, so apparently this is a must do LOL. I just find a spot with a little bit of room and do some mild stretching. Here’s a flick of mom stretching and my fav airplane bag!
6.) Exit row + isle seat girlieeeeeee. I love the exit row, if I am not upgraded this is where you will find me. There is ample room for my legs and it somehow feels safer…? lol. Where do you like to sit? Isle, middle, window? Let me know in the comments, I am a curious cat.
Things I don’t travel without:
1.) Cognitive Function Holy Cao mushroom drinking chocolate. It is INSANE. I’m obessed with the enegry boost without the caffeine and absolutely LOVE the spice and the salt. It is the best mid-day pick me up and it forever impresses new friends I meet on trips. It is packed with 2000mg of Lion’s Mane and Reishi… decadent.
2.) FLOW, DEFENSE, colloidal silver, tea’s mentioned above. Often I will throw a tea blend together if I have enough time and am looking for something specific but that can be another post. I stick to these because they are so versatile and cover my bases for any minor to semi major issues that come up. I can typically source honey and oranges (or some form of citrus) from wherever I am and those would be the other two other things I rely on if I am feeling sick. You can combo most of my mushrooms for immunity and I will often times bring my whole line but these two are great for travel/ general anxiety.
3.) Workout bands. I love these for arm workouts/ stretching. And these are great for booty and core. Sami Clark also recently dropped this kit, which I love for pilates. I haven’t travelled with it yet but for longer trips I think it’s a great option. Also her app is my go-to for quick, effective workouts.
So there you have it. A list of my airport neuroses all in one place. Haha I hope this helps someone out there to have a more enjoyable flight. If that’s you, please leave me a comment so I can gage what folks are gleaning from.
Look out for my upcoming post on Sun Protection: Tips and Tricks, we will talk about how to keep your skin protected from cancer and enjoy the sun without chemical sunscreen. Once it is written I will link it here.
Sending you all a healthy dosage of motivation to tackle whatever is ahead of you this upcoming week, you’ve got this. Make it your week!
Love, happiness, abundance,
Cass
*I’d like to make a small edit. I originally didn’t want to talk about my dad’s untimely death caused by an airplane accident because I really don’t want folks to be fearful. He’s accident was in a small plane that he was operating and not a huge commercial airline. But I decided to add this detail (at the end) to speak to the power of doing hard things and working through tramua in whatever way that looks to you. It has almost been 2 years since he passed and as difficult as it is, getting on that plane does make me feel stronger. We can live with our ghosts and give them a seat at the table. Grief can be a loyal companion and experience can give you the ultimate insight, courage and gratitude.
Ceiling and Visibility Unlimited, I love you dad <3 Heres to your forever adventure in the high skies.

Good read Cassandra :) I'll get some defense ordered up for my trip next week. Thanks for the tips. Oh, no royalties for that Sue-Lynn lady....! Ha!
